How Bout a Scrapbook Page?

I did a few layouts the other week and held on to them for a week like this. I haven't had much time to be crafty so I always like to have some stuff saved to share with you. I love how this page came together, it's one I submitted for the Jillibean Guest Designer contest.
I did stamp some Unity Bevy of Butterflies on my background, but they got covered up by the fun Jillibean butterflies I cut from the dp. I also squeezed in a real photo of a butterfly, see it at the bottom. The boys love the Butterfly show that comes to our conservatory each spring/summer. Thanks for stopping by! See you tomorrow. Can you believe it's October?! Hugs, Lisa

What to Show, What to Show!

I really have quite a few things to share with you and I don't know where to begin. I did a lot of challenges last week and made at least 3 cards each day. I'm busy working on things for the end of this week and World Card Making day, so I don't have a lot of time to chat. How about this? It's a simple SUO card for the Diva Coffee Break Designs. I LOVED the color combo they challenged us with-Soft Suede, Bermuda Bay, and Real Red. Oops! I see I forgot the vanilla with the combo, oh well! See, Kristin, told you I'd get to it! It's a CASE from the SU catty and very clean and simple! I love my big shot and it's so fun to die cut images for fast cards like this. The leaf and the words are little Sizzlit dies that are pretty inexpensive. Have a fabulous Tuesday! Hugs, Lisa

Broman Monday-challenge #2

sooooo did you stop to check out the winners from last week's Broman challenge in the Unity forum? There was some cool cards, and the winners were HOT. This week's challenge had me stumped until late last night, well, late for me. I finished my card around 8pm (I am not a late night crafter, I am beat by the time I put the kiddos to bed!). The challenge this week is to bring on the Bling, shimmer and shine, and to include 2 buttons, and 1 designer paper in your design. Here's the final product and I {heart} it! Those cottage flowers are one of my FAVE unity images.

I love this technique for adding glitter, it's a no mess process. I never can remember the name but you add versamark all over your piece of cardstock (I stamped and colored it first, then added the versamark) and then cover it with Iridescent Ice embossing powder. Hit it with heat gun to melt all the pretty little sparkley specks and your done! The paper is this yummy hounds tooth (see, told you hounds tooth was hot!) by SEI (I won this from an Apron Strings blog candy give away. thanks, Laura!), a few corduroy buttons, and purple rhinestone to set off the ribbon. Doesn't it look like I tied up the flowers with the ribbon and twine! I left a sentiment off, I thought it said enough without one. Oh, here's a close up of the sparkles!I'm off to go shopping at Ann Taylor Loft, love that store and I've got some Loft Bucks (free money, essentially. Spend $50, get $25 off. I've got 3 of those!). Maybe I'll share with you what I find. Tim and I get another 2 nights without the boys this coming weekend. How we got so lucky, I don't know. It's precious time when we get to have grown-up bonding. I'm a firm believer that it helps keep the marriage healthy. We are headed back up to Ann Arbor. He has a meeting and I get to do what I want for the day. Anyway, it's another busy week here in the Henke house. Hugs, Lisa

Ahhhh, Happiness!

Just a little button happiness from me today! ETA: just to ease some of your worries.... the buttons were seperated into their individual colors for storage. they are just touching here for the photo. hehehe! Oh, and we're celebrating NO MORE diapers! Yep, the little guy at 2 1/2 yrs. old is using the potty and wearing big boy underwear!
And this makes me SO HAPPY! Thanks Jillibean for the awesome opportunity!
So what makes you smile today? Hugs, Lisa

Post #2: It's Friends With Flair Time!

I've got two beauties for you today! One uses images from the Sept. Customer KOTM and the other is from the Store KOTM! Seriously, you can't go wrong with either kit. Who am I kidding, you can't go wrong with any Unity stamps, can you? Did you love the releases from last week? I have two faves, the Sketchy Little Boy and Autumn Pals. What are yours? Okay, so on to my cards, that's why you're here, right?I used the Embellish online magazine color challenge for this one paired up with the cute little pumkin and sentiment from the customer KOTM. Don't you like I how I kept the stitching theme going-on the pumpkin, on my ribbon and on my background layer?
I couldn't resist using these flowers again this week. I loved that the pattern in the Early Bird dp by Cosmo Cricket was a perfect match! I added a little sponging and watercoloring to keep it feeling earthy! I have to tell you I am BFF's with my Stamp-a-majig. I don't think I will ever stamp with out it again. I was able to get perfect placement of the sentiment (only part of the whole stamp) in that tight little space. Want more Unity inspiration? Here's the FWF participation thread or Angela's blog post. have a fabulous weekend! Hugs, Lisa

Stamp Something-Favorite Layouts!

This the last of our favorites month over at Stamp Something. I use a layout like this all the time with my 4 1/4 inch square cards. I'll move the image panel around a bit, but the background and ribbon are similar with a bit of scallop sticking out. The stamps are an oldie but a goodie from PTI, Wise Owl. The colors are for a color challenge (cream, lt.orange, orange, burgandy-also include Polka Dots in your design) for the new online magazine, Embellish. There is some cute stuff over there, so go check it out! Before you do that, make sure you stop by the Stamp Something Blog and come play along. See you back here for my Untiy, Friends with Flair post. Hugs, Lisa

Did You See This One?

...the color challenge over at splitcoast Tuesday, that is? I thought it was so rich and elegant- Crushed Curry, Rich Razzleberry and Black! Of course it was a perfect combo for a fun Halloween cards, but I stuck with a friendship theme. I still had out my Trendy Trees from my CAS card and I wanted to try the circle with a tree (saw it on a You Tube video using Branching Out). I also used Mercy's Tuesday sketch for this.
Isn't that hounds tooth pattern just the coolest? Did you know it was was a hot pattern in the industry right now? I must of read that somewhere, but I just love the look of it. Hugs, Lisa

Fun with MFT!

MFT is getting ready for another release. Kim has been talking about some new news and she has us all excited. In the mean time, I've been playing along with the weekly challenges. I made two for the MFT Rewind Challenge-ink up the first MFT stamp set you bought. I purchased two last Jan. (now I have like 10 sets! hehehe, and a huge wish list that keeps growing with each release) You Take the Cake and Baby It's Cold Outside.
I used Beate's weekend sketch for this one and the fun, cheerful papers by Cosmo Cricket. Limelight has 'em along with other fun Cosmo stuff (like the chipboard mitten and rhinestone also used here).

And here is the other CAS card I did with Monday's sketch. Sorry for the ugly photo, it was a rainy afternoon and I had to retake this one 4 times. Oh, look I used more Cosmo Cricket dp, this time it's Early Bird. I just stamped the presents from You Take the Cake and colored them with copics. Love that I could curve the sentiment to fit the circle, isn't that one of the fun things about acrylic stamps? All right, I'm off for a busy Wednesday. See you back tomorrow!

Hugs, Lisa

CAS Tuesday!

I was an over achiever yesterday and stamped 3 CAS cards. We had a great sketch to work with by Cookiebaker. I used this card of hers to create these cards of mine ('m only showing 2 today, the third you'll see tomorrow with a MFT post). Here is an SUO version. I flipped the sketch and finally used the new Sleighbells ribbon-it's not just for holiday card making!
and then there's this earthy card made with some Unity stamps of course. These come from the Sept. Customer KOTM.
This blue is not your average navy cs, it is the gorgeous Enchanted evening by Papertrey ink. I combined it with some spring rain bitty dots dp and soft suede cs from SU. I was flipping through my swatch book and decided on this three-some.
If you want one of these great color tools, go see Becky. She's got all the deets about them, or you can see my post here. See you all tomorrow! Hugs, Lisa

Hello Again!

Well, that was kind of nice. I haven't seen any complaints about not posting all weekend, so I think I'll stick to M-F for a while. I did do some crafty stuff thanks to a few little challenges I just couldn't pass up. This one is from Unity. Their new theme is "Who Does That?" and boy have they kicked things up. TONS of prizes and just plain ol' FUN! Did you see this?
I think my next 7 Monday's will be all about the Bachelor Challenges! So that's what I have for you today. I made this card using Broman's favorite colors-red, black, and green. It's a date card for my hubby! I LOVE the October Afternoon, Road Maps papers for masculine-they are perfect! I combined a few different Unity stamps here-confessions, sentiments O' simple, and the Sept. KOTM (the customer kit, not the store only kit).
I man'd the card up with some fun, screw brads. I love that I give DH a date card, so he can take ME out! You have until tonight to upload your card to SCS to play along, and just for playing you can earn a $5 off coupon! Who doesn't love a coupon? Hugs, Lisa

It's a Two-fer for you today!!!!

I decided to just combine my posts today for you-Stamp Something and Friends With Flair! Why you ask, well, I used the same oh-so-awesome Unity September Store kit of the month. I've been using it all week and just love it!!! The cards all share this common theme, why not combine them all for the ease of your viewing pleasure. LOL! The Stamp Something Challenge this week is following along with our favorites, this week you have to use your favorite color combo.
This one was probably easier than the last few weeks, at least it was for me. I am really drawn to earthy tones, anything with dark brown, a shade of green (olive tones just rock!) and a shade of orange just calls my name! I pulled out one of my all-time FAVE SU paper packs (yes, it's retired, I'm sad to say) Hawaiian Papaya! Put Mercy's Tuesday sketch to work and created this beauty! Stamps are all from that Unity kit. Really, you ask? I don't see that word, like that. Ahhhh, my trusty markers and a good 'ol stampa-ma-jig came in handy so I could fit the one word sentiment just right on my circle. Clever, aren't I? Wanna see another card with that kit? How about 2 more?
This one I did for this week's featured Stamper challenge. How could I not honor the Ms. Shannan Tuebner? I cased this card of her's.
And here's one last one since I think I have decided to take the weekends off from blogging. We'll see how that goes for me and if you really miss me on the weekends, just let me know and we'll see if I can figure something out that will make us both happy. I {{{heart}}} this card,

I made if for the Jillibean Soup guest DT call. Crossin' my fingers on that one! So I leave you with a great list of inspiration to check out:

Hugs to you! I'm outta here! Lisa

Technique Wednesday!

If you've been around here enough, you'll know I'm not a huge technique person. I love the look of them, but most of the time I'm just too lazy to give it a go. At the SU Regionals last weekend we learned a cool new technique with chalks. Oh, don't grumble....you'll like this I'm certain. AND it was easy and not too time consuming. It's a chalk-glazed-watercolor technique (nope, didn't pay attention to the correct name). It also helped that Kristin had issued a challenge on SCS in the demo forum (WICKED challenge) to use chalk. She here's what you do.

  1. scrape off a bit of chalk (I used an hobby blade and rubbed gently down the side of the chalk piece) into an empty container.

  2. add a few drops of water to help dissolve the chalk and make a colored pasty-liquid.

  3. add a glob of crystal effects and mix that together. You now have a colored glaze to paint your image with.

I used a q-tip to do the painting. Be sure to emboss your stamped image first so you have a border to keep the glaze inside the lines. It really is a cool technique, giving you a soft water colored-look with a glossy finish. Here's a close up to show the shine.

Enjoy your day and thanks for stopping by. I always love to hear what you have to say. Thanks for all your sweet comments. Hugs, Lisa

CAS-wedding style!

I finished the CAS challenge this week on the actual day it was posted. I was fortunate to get some stamping time yesterday (yes, little man took a nap!). It was a wedding challenge. I played along as an equal opportunity stamper and used a little bit from lots of vendors. Here's my card.

I started with some Spring Moss cardstock and stamped the PTI set, Damask Designs with Versamark. I then used the SU sizzlit, Little Leaves in Ripe Avocado. The square was cut from chocolate chip and matted with very vanilla cs. I ran it through the cuttle bug swiss dots embossing folder. The sentiment is also from SU, Teeny Tiny Wishes and punched out with the modern label punch. Finished it all off with some satin vanilla ribbon from PTI, and a few drops of liquid pearl. Nice, clean, simple, and a touch of elegance. enjoy! Hugs, Lisa

Look what I did on Saturday!

Were you worried about me? No. Well, good! I'm here and doing great. I know it is unusual for me to not post for 2 days in a row, but I just haven't been home. Saturday I spent the day stamping downtown with a whole big group of SU demos at the Cincinnati Regional Conference. The day, for me, was all about hanging out with these 3 ladies-Crystal Birr, Becky Carafa, and Kristin Moore! It was soooo good to see them again, catch up, and actually stamp together.

While we were there, we made some cute stuff with the SU set, Berry Christmas! It's in the holiday mini and while I wasn't sure about it when I first saw the set, I'm so glad I now own it. I really liked all 5 projects we made. Here are two of the cards with matching envelopes.
I really like how all the projects we made worked with the same color scheme and the embellishements. I see a Holiday Class in the works!!! I also decided I now need the Soft Suede Patterns dsp, among other things! I even learned a few cool new techniques. Now to hunt down some non-quilted, rough paper towel..... Here's the other full card we did. I'll save the rest for another post. Have a great Monday! Hugs, Lisa

Friends With Flair!!!

Yeah! for a short week. It's Friday again, already! I have a fun weekend planned with some great stamping friends. Becky Carafa is arriving at my house tonight and then we meet up with Crystal Birr and Kristin Moore in the morning for Stampin' Up! Regionals right here in Cincinnati!!! If you are going tomorrow morning, come find us. I know we would all love to meet more online stamping friends in the flesh!
This is post #2 for today, scroll down for my Stamp Something challenge card. I got in again this week for the Unity Friends with Flair Blog Hop! I was soooo happy when Mandy at Limelight Paper Crafts got in the Bevy of Butterfly set. I got it a few months ago with my KOTM coupon from Unity, but now you can order it a Limelight!!! I whipped up two cards using these fabulously sweet butterflies.
And this one is a CASE from Becky. She made this card for a Fall to Layout sample and I was lucky enough to get it in the mail!!! I just love these papers by Cosmo Cricket, Early Bird.
Oh and I'll tell you again, Mandy has the Sept. Store KOTM too. Did yo see it on my post earlier this week? NO, well here it is again! I love that Chicks Rule sentiment with coordinating birdie!Mine is on it's way......EEEEEE! Just in case you needed to be enabled any further, you can count on me. I'm happy to oblige. Off to see all the other Unity friends. See the full list of participants here on the SCS thread. Angela should have it up on her blog too. Hugs, Lisa

Stamp Something-Fave Embellishments!

If you haven't noticed the theme this month at Stamp Something, it's all about favorites. I love that so many of you commented on how hard it was to pick your favorite stamp last week. It was like asking you to pick your favorite child. LOL! This week was even harder for me-use your favorite embellishment. So you know what I did, I used all my faves....buttons, ribbon, and designer paper from one of my new favorite vendors (Jillibean Soup)! Come play along with the Stamp Something Challenge this week for a fabulous prize from our sponsor, Quixotic Paperie.
You can find the paper, the felt pieces (bean seeds) and buttons all at LimeLight Papercrafts. The layout comes from Clean & Simple blog, Fall to Layout #58. See you back in a bit with my Unity, Friends with Flair post. Hugs, Lisa

Helping Out!

My stamping friend, Erin has asked us to help her spread the word and put a smile on a little girls face. Her neighbor, a 13 year old girl, Paige, was in a serious boating accident a few weeks ago and just had part of her arm amputated. The doctors are working to save the rest, but are unsure how much they can do. Here is a link to the article that describes it more in detail. Included in the article it mentions they've run out of room for flowers and stuffed animals, but cards are welcome. So, Erin is offering up some awesome blog candy for those who want to help put a smile on Paige's face and give her family some uplifting words. All you need to do is make a card for Paige, post on your blog, leave a comment on Erin's blog post and mail it out. Not only will you then be entered in the drawing but you'll also be helping a very sweet girl and her family through a very hard time. Erin would like to reach 100 cards. Check out the Blog Candy up for grabs!

Plus More! Thanks for helping out! Hugs, Lisa

A Little Go Blue and a Card.

So I rarely post pics of my fam, other than those that end up on scrapbook pages. Since these were on my camera as I uploaded some card pics yesterday, I thought some of you may like to see the handsome men in my life! If not, then scroll down to the crafty stuff!
These pictures are from the U of M football game we took the boys to on Saturday while we were up in Michigan. I am surrounded by boys who LOVE all things sports. I like sports, was an athlete myself back in highschool and I enjoy a good college football game, but I enjoy it in small doses! We are BIG Michigan fans, I went there, my DH did his residency there, and that is were we met. I just love all the blue and gold in these pictures. Here they are hanging out at the tailgate before the game.
Almost the best family picture, considered it for our Christmas card, except little man is more interested in his sucker than looking at the camera. Still cute, though! This is what I did most of the game, held Nicholas while he tried to get some rest time in. It was hot and it was a missed-nap-afternoon. Plus he was fighting his cold and just wanted snuggles. I'll take 'em anywhere I can get them.

This is one of the few smiles we got out of Ryan. While he loves football, he was NOT loving the cramped seats and HOT, HOT sun. And then there's my ultimate sports fan, Joshua. He was in heaven. Loved every minute of it and only complained when we left the game early due to the other two. Okay, so on to the craft stuff! This card I did for this week's color challenge on SCS. The colors this week were-elegant eggplant, old olive, and basic black. I subbed out the eggplant and used razzleberry instead. The layout of the card came from a beautiful card featured in our Stampin' Success magazine by Amy Rohl. Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day :) Hugs, Lisa

Back to the Grind!

So summer is officially over. Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. We had a fabulous time at my friends wedding, but of course I finally caught the cold that my kids had all last week. UGH! I feel horrible today. Today is going to be a very sluggish day and I have a lot to get done, so this is not good. Here's a quick card to share. I actually made it two weeks ago for one of Mercy's Tuesday sketches. Enjoy! I'm off to spend the moring on the couch! Hugs, Lisa

It's a Spooktacular Time with Limelight!

Good morning and welcome to the Limelight Papercrafts, Six Chicks project parade. This month we are sharing some spooktacular treats. I had a crafting block thinking about what I wanted to show you all this month, then it came to me, and it came together quickly and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Plus this is so economical-it's using what you have. I created the card and the treat pouch out of 1 8 1/2 x 11 piece of cs! How's that for being resourceful.

I started this whole project by folding a whole sheet of cs in half at 5 1/2 inch. Then I cut the folded piece at 4 1/2 inches. I ran the larger folded piece through the Big Shot with the Scalloped Square Bigz die, making sure I moved the folded edge down a bit so it didn't get cut. I made it into a pouch by running a zig zag stitch down and around three of the sides. I added a few jumbo eyelets to the top corners (you could add a ribbon or twine through those to create a handle). Then I worked with the fun new Halloween set by Unity, Hauntingly Sweet and some October Afternoon dp in an Orange pattern. I used my favorite gingham ribbon and dyed it with a bit of Dusty Durango ink. It's all about the Candy Corn, love the sentiment, so that's what's in the little cello bag, tied off with a bit of black hemp twine. Look, my card coordinates. I used the left over cs that I cut off from the pouch. I used the same colors with a bit of Crushed Curry tossed in (couldn't resist adding a big yellow moon behind my tree!), the same OA dp, ribbon and even the zig zag stitch and scallop! One of the best things about this stamp set is that it comes with 3 sentiments. I used the happy Halloween on this one. There you have it, hope you're feeling motivated to create some fun Halloween treats this year. Now join me to see what the other six chicks have been creating! Mandy, Amy, Lorie, Lee, JenMarie, Ryann, and our Septmber Guest designer Ann Cox!!!
Also don't forget the Limelight Specials!!! They are always fabulous and make shopping a little bit easier! Who can resist a sale, right?!!! Have a great start to your week, it's a Holiday after all! Long weekends are nice! Hugs, Lisa

A little box!

On Wednesday MFT held their release party. I played along with their one-click challenge to create a box of some sort using MFT stamps of course. I remembered this fun pop-up box that Cindy Beach made using SU's matchbox die. I went and searched out the tutorial and made one of my own with some pretty, new-to me Cosmo paper, Early Bird! The stamps are An Owl for All Seasons and You take the Cake. I didn't win, but that's okay because this little cutie is for my niece that turns 9 on 9-9-09, How COOL is that ? And here's a picture of it all closed up. I think it is a great way to say happy birthday in a non-traditional card kind of way! Hugs, Lisa

FWF-what's this you ask?

Let me tell you....so Friday's used to be hip hop hangover day for the Unity peeps. Now that Hip Hop is no more (can't wait to see what Angela and the Unity gang have instore for us on Sept. 17), we needed another name. Angela still wanted Friday's to be all about her loyal customers, friends, and followers so that brings us to FWF-Friends With Flair! Isn't it a fabulous title? The first 50 to sign up each week on the Wednesday thread on SCS are included in the little blog hop. If you happened here just because, that's great, but don't miss out on all the other Unity goodness being posted today. Stop back at Angela's blog to see the rest of the FWF blogs. I almost didn't get this done. This week has been a whirl wind of emotions and honestly my mojo has been MIA. I guess I did find a little bit of it for a few DT projects I need to finish up plus this card for the Unity KOTM Challenge. Jennifer Buck gave us a doozey of a color combo to work with-green, purple, orange and black along with Unity stamps from the July or August KOTM. Perfect Halloween colors but I decided to make it even harder on myself and forego that theme. I actually really adore my card, it's cute right? Images are from the July KOTM-Pocket Full Of... I used a white thicker U to finish off the sentiment. Here's a close up of the details. I think pears are hot right now, I seem to be seeing them everywhere as of late. I don't like the taste of pears, but I love 'em here on my card. Oh, and just another tip on my giant scallops. I've been in love with the Fiskar's punch that is out there (Heather P. and Dawn McVey use it all the time) but I haven't had the extra cash to go buy it. I dont' think I need it now because I am liking the faux look I can create with my 1 3/4 circle punch. Love circles! Hugs, Lisa
