Limelight Sketch and Product Challenge #24

Glad you are here! Today I have a Limelight sketch and product challenge for you. The product focus this week is Ribbon, this is what brought me to Limelight in the first place. I love their ribbon selection. Check it out. Here's the sketch for you to work with. I had some kiddo birthday cards to make, so I pulled out my cute little Billy set. I played with a fun color combo of the new SU color, Bermuda breeze paired with Kiwi Kiss and grey polka dotted paper by October Afternoon, Cherry Hill. Don't you like the little lilly pad I created? Stamps for a Worthy Cause

If you spend anytime in blogland (you're here, so you are around at least a little bit!) then you have been seeing this cute new Little Billy and Lily set by Pink Cat Studios-Weiman Wranglers. Stop right now and go get it!

I purchased my download and 15 minutes later I was coloring this cute little cowboy and putting this card together. Limelight Sketch and Product Challenge!

You have to try this sketch, it is a good one! I love making circle cards, so that was the biggest draw for me. It's April!!! Spring is here!! That makes me think of bright, sunshine-filled days!! What's bright and shiny?? Metallics!! What can you find that's shiny metallic to use on your challenge this week?? Brads, Metallic Paper, Eyelets, Embellies??? Let your creativity "shine"!!!! You can find lots of pretty metallics at Limelight Papercrafts!

I have to be honest and say that I couldn't make your typical metallic products work on my card, BUT I did use metal. The brads I used count as metal hardware, they are just red. Everything I made my card with you can get at Limelight (except the New Leaf cs from PTI). The stamps are from Pink Cat Studio. I cut the little froggie off of Little Billy's head. I laugh at myself because every time I do a challenge I think, "oh, man, I wish I had that to use today. I would have worked perfectly on my card." Today I wish I had those cool Piggytales to pop up that froggie. You know what's on my next order ;) The paper is none other than October Afternoon. Six Chicks Project Parade-It's for the Kids

Today is Jan. 6 (yes, already. Does every year go faster and faster?!), and that means we have lots of fun to share with your from the Limelight DT. Each month we have a theme project and we get to share it with you on the 6th! So here it is...

My two oldest are turning 7 and 5 in the coming month, actually Joshua's birthday is this week. They both love to draw and color. (I do like to think this is where some of my stamping has rubbed off on them. heheheh!) They both really enjoy reading. Ryan, my 5 year old is really starting to have everything click when it come to learning to read. He making great progress and is really proud of himself. Joshua is an excellent reader. He is a first grader and I swear his is reading at a third/fourth grade level. I tell you all of this (yes, I wanted to brag on my boys a bit) because I thought it was time they had their own little card kit to use for their friends' birthdays. I did all the cutting and stamping, they just have to color and glue the pieces down. They are reading, so they can even decide which sentiment they want to use. It was a hit! They thought it was so cool and got busy right away designing their first card (It did help that their best friend, next door had a birthday yesterday, too.)

I got the tutorial for the box off of SCS. You can see that here. It was super easy. I chose to make th lid clear (the boys would be more apt to use it if they can see inside the box first. They are kind of out of sight, out of mind little boys) I did learn something, you can't punch through acetate. I was so worried I killed my scallop edge punch. Thought I might save someonelses punch with this tip! I also added little dividers to my box so I could add some embellishments for the boys to use and not have everything all jumbled together. I decorated the outside with some of the smaller stamped images of the set and made a cute little belly band finished off with some Twill Ribbon.

The Little Billy stamp set by Pink Cat Studio was perfect for my project. Another tip: don't forget to get some Ez-Mount when you buy any of the Pink Cat Studio sets. While you can use them they way them come, personally I think you get a better stamped image with a little bit of cushion behind them. Did you know Limelight carries Ez-Mount? See it is a 1 stop shopping experience! There are four different images of Billy all dressed up so I could put some variation in the kit, giving the boys the chance to pick which image they wanted. I stamped them and mounted them on colored card stock. I also stamped all of the different sentiments and punched them out with various shape punches, again, allowing the boys to make some choices in their card making. I made the card bases 4 1/4 inch square cards, so there wasn't so much extra space to fill. I also cut strips of designer paper, that is perfect for little boy and even big boy cards. It is from Kaiser Kraft and it is their Lone Star line. Very nice paper, double sided, fun designs, and there are four different prints that coordinate together!

I know, I said the kit was for the boys, but I couldn't resist making a card myself. I swear, blame it on my Copics. They were calling my name, so I had to use them. I also wanted to paper piece Billy's little shirt with some of the fun star pattern paper. Here is my card:

Check out those brads! They matched the browns in the paper perfectly, so I had to use them. They are from the new Basic Grey line, Bittersweet. Limelight carries a lot of products from this line up that all coordinate. Yes, they are so sweet for Valentines day, but I also wanted to show you that they can be used on all of your projects. Even ones for little boys! Okay, I know this is a long post today, but I had lots to share with you. I probably should have started the post off with this card, but I'm ending with the grand finale! Here is Joshua's finished card. He is SO proud of it. He was a bit bummed that his skin tone marker isn't as good as my markers, but he said it would do. See, my stamping is rubbing off on him. He tried his best to get me to let him use my copics. I had to give him a high five for trying, but told him sorry no-go! He did this all by himself-colored it and came up with the layout. He was even taking it to school today to share with his class (he is Star of the Week). That's it from me today. Be sure to check out what the other girls did with their For the Kids project! GSG Featured Swapper!

This week, Vickie Waugh was the lucky girl on the GSG Blog to being picked as the Featured Swapper. Check out her gallery or her blog and see what good stuff you'll find. I chose to case this card (mainly because I heart that owl). The only thing holding me back from getting that set is the set SU has coming out in the new Fall/Winter Catty with owls. I also loved the colors in the dp Vickie used. I finally used the last image from the Billy set that I haven't shown you yet. Isn't he cute with that froggie on his head?

I colored Billie with my copics. The white cs is embossed with the dots and Flowers embossing folder. I then stamped the plain embossed circles with some images from the Little Pieces stamp set in Really Rust, Old Olive, and Choc. chip. I decided to use the Olive twill ribbon to give it a more boyish, texture (since I kind of used a girlie embossing folder). My sentiment is layered up on the designer label punch, 1 inch circle, and the large oval punch. I attached some brass brads and sponged around the edges to finish it off. Thanks for the inspiration Vickie!

Here Comes Billy!

Who is Billy you ask? If you've paid attention to my blog you know I don't have a son named Billy. Well, thanks once AGAIN to Lauren Meader (mytime) I discovered this cute little guy from Pink Cat Studio. Most of the time when I am shopping it takes me forever to finally hit the send button. I really think about my non-SU purchases since I can't use them to demo with. Not this time. I saw Lauren's cute boy gift set and 10 minutes later this stamp set was mine! Shipping was super fast which was a nice surprise since it was coming from Canada. I know I will get a ton of mileage out of this set. I just hope the boy's friends don't get sick of seeing him when it comes to Birthday cards.

The first card here uses the sketch from the Great Swaps Girls Challenge this week. I used the rust striped paper from the Fall Flowers paper pack across the top of the texture choc. chip cs and then to layer the main image. I added a piece of linen thread to separate the two pieces of paper and give it a more western, rugged feel. To color little Billy, I used my Water Wonder Crayons, aqua painter and watercolor paper. The sentiment and stars are stamped with choc. chip craft ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder. I layered the sentiment with the lg. oval punch and lg. star punch.

This second card uses the Billy super hero stamp that is included in the set. I colored him using my aqua painter again, but picked up the ink from the lid of my ink pads instead of the WWC. The sentiment is layered up again, but this time with my circle punches and designer label punch. I also sandwiched in a piece of the styled silver HPH. A piece of striped pumpkin grosgrain ribbon finishes it off! All products are SU except for the stamps.
