A few weeks ago, Splitcoast Stampers started a new challenge. It's a mixed media challenge. If you have been around blog land much lately, you may have started to see a new trend. It's Mixed Media with papercrafting. There is some WAY cool stuff out there. I have tried this a little bit over the past year, but it still scares me a bit. I am super excited that SCS has this challenge. It's a great way to learn and to practice.
I have been stalking the challenges over the past few weeks and collecting a few new products. I decided to jump in this week. The challenge was to use water with water-based or water-soluble mediums on your project to make color MOVE!You can read all about it HERE.
I pulled out my newre-inkers from MFTin Sno Cone, Grape jelly and Lemon Drop. I placed a drop of each into a plastic pallet.
I found some watercolor paper in my stash (it's from SU) and it was perfect for this technique. I first wet a some streaks with water and a brush, then I added my ink with some quick brush strokes. The water helped the ink to move across the paper in the places where I first wetted the paper. I then held the paper up right to create a dripping effect.
My heat tool was my friend with this. I am not a patient crafter, so before I moved on to another color, I made sure my first coat was dry.
Instead of using the watercolor effect as a background, I went ahead and used myInspired By BUTTERFLIES DIE-NAMIC to cut out a large butterfly. I added a bit of text, stamped in MFT GAPE jelly ink fromOwn Your Story stamp set.
I was a bit of an overachiever with the mixed media and while I still had drops of re-inker in my pallet, I went ahead and added some white acrylic paint to each of the colors and some more water (from my aqua painter) to thin is all out and have a colored, white wash to my embossed Kraft cs background. Emboss first, then paint.
I looooove how this one turned out! A sweet Grape Jelly button and Hemp Twine finished it off.
The sentiment along the bottom is from the MFT set,My Favorite Sentiments . I love that it filled the width of my card (4.25 inches).
Here is the finished card again.
I still had plenty of my watercolored paper left over after die cutting the butterfly. I didn't want it to go to waster, so I made another card, and this time I used myHEXAGON STAX DIE-NAMICSto cut some fun, geometric shapes to my card.
The newDOCUMENT IT-RIGHT THIS WAYstamp set from Laina Lamb by MFT was a perfect match for my trendy card. I stamped the fun arrows in the same colored inks I used for the watercoloring, being sure to add them in all different directions.
I also added a few streaks of the purple colored acrylic paint I had left over, to the background. I made sure that was dry before stamping the arrows.
I decided to add the sentiment in black AND then accented the hexagons with a few small black pearls. It's such a fun card!
I left the inside blank, so I could add any sentiment in the future, or just a note to a friend.
Thanks for stopping by today. I've got more to share over the weekend. Thanks to a two hour delay due to icy roads, I did not have to work this morning, so I stamped and created for a few different challenges. I hope you'll stop back by.
Here is my shopping list for theMFTproducts I used today.
