Sweet Sunday Sketch {thanks very much}

I have been really excited to work with this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch. I had big plans to do a water colored background, but instead I pulled out a stencil and created some magic. I really love how using a stencil and sponging on ink (I used Green Room and Lush Lagoon ) really does feel like magic. I still always say WOW when I peel back that stencil.  Plus, I love how easy a stencil makes ink blending. :)

I used the Posted Note Sentiments stamp set by Reverse Confetti and stamped it onto a white die cut circle from Donut You Know, then I layered a green circle from Circles 'n Scallops behind it. I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to stamp the Petals 'n Posies flower and then cut that out with the matching die. The leaves are from Love Blooms confetti Cuts.

Here is this week's sketch.

I Love These Markers

I used the current Retro Sketch to make this sweet birthday card. I used the adorable little monkey from the Reverse Confetti Monkey Business stamp. I stamped the monkey, party hat, and balloons with some Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I used my Misti, so I could quickly ink the same images with versamark ink and then gave them a quick coating of clear embossing powder. The Misti allowed for perfect placement as I re-inked my images.

So let's talk about the coloring. OMG! I have been eyeing all the Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers all summer long. I have also had numerous conversations with a handful of my crafty friends. I should have trusted my girls! They were all right. These markers are pretty awesome. If you are like me, you already have LOTS of mediums to water color with. I have never mastered any of them. In fact I don't use most of them, ever. So I really had no business buying more watercolor markers, BUT boy am I glad I did! With little effort, I was able to create some pretty cute water colored images. This monkey was the first one I did.

A couple tips....go ahead and emboss your image first. This helps with color bleeding if you are a little heavy handed on the water, like I am. The other tip I have for you is, go to YouTube and do some video watching. Do your homework. Just search Zig Clean Color markers and you'll see lots of choices. I love Jennifer McGuire's tutorials. There are also, many stores selling these markers. I shopped around and found a fantastic price on Amazon! Gotta love Prime 2 day shipping!

Once I finished coloring my images, I used the matching Monkey Business Confetti Cuts and quickly was able to cut out the images. I like to use washi tape to hold the dies in place as I run it through my Vagabond.

To finish off my card and following the sketch, I added in a strip of pretty scallops with the Double Edge Scallop Confetti Cut. I stamped the sentiment along the bottom right and then tied on some bakers twine.

Here is the sketch I used.

Sweet Sunday Sketch 283-The Best

I told you I would be ready, this week! It's time for a new sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge. We sure hope you'll come play along.

I started my card with a light blue and purple color wash in the background. I  cut out three stars from You Are A Star Confetti Cuts and went ahead and stamped one of sentiments from  You Are a Star stamp with the pretty Lilac to Grape Purple Ombre Ink pad by Hero Arts.  Gah! i love that ink color.

You'll notice that I used a trio of stars in place of the squares. That's totally ok to do with this sketch challenge. Use it and be inspired.

Come stop by the Sweet Sunday Sketch Blog to see what the rest of the team members did with the sketch. You'll also find all the challenge info and ink up there, too!

Have a beautiful day!

Lil' Inker Designs is one of the challenge sponsors. You can find all the details AND the link up over on the Freshly Made Sketch blog

Here is my card using all kinds of lovelies from LID. I was dying to use the beautiful Quilted Flower die. I used all three pieces from the die to create my pretty yellow flower.

I love the gorgeous dotted scalloped border from Border Builders. I used it to cut the Ombre Stripes paper. I stamped the sentiment from Greetings & Salutations along the bottom in grey ink. I added some gold accents with sequins and twine. I love the little touch of sparkle these add.

Come play along, there are a ton of fantastic sponsors. You won't want to miss it!

and how about a close look at the LID products I used today.
