May Creative Challenge-Wreaths

Welcome. It's the  May Creative Challenge post with My Favorite Things

Our Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature, where we challenge our design team to explore their creative side using a specific theme, product or technique. This month, we're creating wreaths. Be sure to check the MFT Blog for a list of all the designers who have put their MFT stamps and/or Die-namics dies to work to create a wreath for you today!

I have  a few ideas to share, and lots of photos,  so lets get going.  I started this month's project with a trip to my local craft store.  I wandered down the isle of wreaths (did you know there is a whole section dedicated to DIY wreaths in most craft stores??) to see what my options might be.  I was drawn to the plain, woody, viney  wreaths.  And then I saw the cutest 4 pack of mini wreaths and my light bulb went on-Christmas Ornaments!

So I picked up this four pack for $2.99 (would have been cheaper if I used my coupon on them, but other goodies ended up in my cart. lol!).

I created 3 similar, yet different wreaths to be used as ornaments for my Christmas tree next year.  I also think this would make a great little gifty for someone, too, come holiday time.

I used LOTS of my MFT flower Die-namics and felt, and accented with gingham ribbon, bells, and twine.  MFT has a great selection of colors of felt and it's great quality! Love it! I used Puff White Cloud, Wild Cherry, and Jellybean Green for this first project.

The ROLLED GARDENIA  was my focal flower.  I love how it has a poinsetta look and feel to it. I then added in some MINI ROYAL ROSES and a few ROYAL LEAVES (LOVE that I can cut 5 different sized leaves all at once with this Die-namics!).

I used twine to attach my bells.  I threaded a craft needle and pulled it through the wreath.

Key to making these come together fast,  is a hot glue gun. WOW! Heat it up and go....the flowers and embellies adhere instantly.

Here is a close up of each of the mini wreaths. I love the classic red and white colors I used.

I used all white felt flowers on this one.

And here I used the ribbon in a different way, showing you a way you can hang this one your tree come holiday time.

After I put together my mini wreaths, I got to thinking about my CIRCLE STAX DIE-NAMCIS and how I could cut a ring of card stock and create a wreath embellishement for a card.

Here is how I line up my Die-namics before I run it through my Vagabond.

I wrapped the large die cut circle with some Honeydew Twine and then added lots of fun felt flowers.  I used the following Die-namics to make these flowers:

ROLLED FLOWER

MINI ROLLED ROSES

MINI ROYAL ROSES

PRIMA DONNA PETALS

ROYAL LEAVES

AND here is my finished product.

I added a corrugated butterfly (cut with the Inspired by Butterflies Die-namics.  I swiped the edges to really show off the grooves of the butterfly.

I also added the sentiment to the Clearly Sentimental Label Die-namics.

The stamp set is BIG GREETINGS. Love this one. Great font and nice big size!

  6. Lisa, all your wreaths are beautiful -- I love the ornament idea with the gardenia -- it does look just like a pointsettia! And I love the card -- I can hear Christmas coming in that card too!
